IELTS Speaking Part 2: A Person
Describing a person is a frequent topic in IELTS Speaking Part 2. Prepare to talk for 1-2 minutes about someone you know or admire, covering all points on the cue card.
Sample Questions for 'A Person'
- Describe a person you admire. You should say: Who the person is, Why you admire this person, What qualities they have, And explain how this person has influenced you.
- Talk about someone in your family who you are close to. You should say: Who the person is, How often you see this person, What you do together, And explain why you are close to them.
- Describe a person who has helped you in your life. You should say: Who the person is, How they helped you, What they did for you, And explain why their help was important.

- Talk about a person who has taught you an important life lesson. You should say: Who the person is, What the lesson was, How they taught you, And explain why the lesson was important.
- Describe someone you know who is very creative. You should say: Who the person is, What kind of creative work they do, How you know them, And explain why you think they are creative.
- Talk about a person who always makes you laugh. You should say: Who the person is, How they make you laugh, What kind of humor they have, And explain why you enjoy their company.
- Describe a person who has inspired you to achieve your goals. You should say: Who the person is, What goals they helped you achieve, How they motivated you, And explain why you look up to them.
- Talk about someone you know who is very generous. You should say: Who the person is, What kind of things they do for others, How they help people, And explain why you admire their generosity.
- Describe a person who has made a positive impact on your community. You should say: Who the person is, How they helped the community, What actions they took, And explain why their contribution was valuable.
- Talk about a friend who has been a good influence on you. You should say: Who the friend is, How they influenced you, What they did for you, And explain why their influence was positive.
- Describe a person you know who is very talented. You should say: Who the person is, What talent they have, How you know them, And explain why you admire their talent.
- Talk about a person who has made a difference in your life. You should say: Who the person is, What they did for you, How they changed your life, And explain why they are important to you.
- Describe a person who has helped you improve a skill. You should say: Who the person is, What skill they helped you with, How they helped you, And explain why you value their help.
- Talk about a person you know who has a positive attitude. You should say: Who the person is, What makes their attitude positive, How they inspire others, And explain why you think their attitude is important.
- Describe a person who is a good listener. You should say: Who the person is, Why they are a good listener, How they help you when you talk to them, And explain why you appreciate their listening skills.
- Talk about a person you know who is very disciplined. You should say: Who the person is, What kind of discipline they have, How their discipline helps them, And explain why you respect their discipline.
Tips for Answering
- Describe the person's appearance, personality, and your relationship with them.
- Give specific examples of their actions or qualities.
- Explain the impact this person has had on you or others.
